RPI Student sketchbooks
Scope and Contents
The RPI Student Sketch Book Collection (AC 14) is a conglomeration of student sketch books and drawings from varied accessions and donors. The "pre-computer" course of study required a great amount of hands-on drawing, often in the form of a final sketch book. Though these drawings span from 1864 to 1952, they are similar in nature. Courses requiring final projects in this form included Geometrical, Topographical and Machine Drawing. These courses were required for degrees in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Topographical Engineering and Natural Science. Among the sketch books are drawings by Allen Van Rensselaer '05, and Ferdinand W. Roebling (brother of Washington Roebling).
