Biographical Note

John A. Clark of Wilmington, Del., died March 22, 1950. Mr. Clark, born in Wilmington, July 2, 1865, received his degree of civil engineering from Rensselaer in 1887. He was a member of Sigma Xi and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Mr. Clark began his career with the Norfolk and Western Railroad and from 1887 to 1892 was resident engineer in charge of construction of the Clinch Valley Division. From 1892 to 1893 he was supervisor of the Winston-Salem Division. He then served as head of maintenance of way of the Cincinnati, Portsmouth, and Virginia. From 1908 to 1919 he had his own contracting business, building many roads in the state of Delaware. From 1919 until his retirement in 1947 he was associated with the Fidelity Deposit Company of Baltimore, Md., as a consulting engineer and engineer in charge of the completion of defaulted contracts. He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Wells of Wise, Va., and a daughter, Elizabeth C. Crossan, Germantown, Pa. (Alumni News, May, 1950)
