Scope and Contents

The papers of B.F. Greene (AC 6) contain his diploma from the Rensselaer Institute, 1842; miscellaneous correspondence, 1843-1859; a small scrapbook of newspaper clippings kept by Greene, 1847-1850; and three of his many publications, "Agriculture, Manufactures, and Commerce," The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute," and "Glenmore School for Engineers." The correspondence includes a letterpress copybook dating from Greene's directorship of the Rensselaer Institute, including reports to students' parents, letters discussing a new location for the Institute, a list of the number of U.S. and foreign students at RPI in 1854, and a table showing the number of graduates from 1826 to 1854; there are also typed transcripts of the more legible items in the volume.
