Henry Foord collection
Content Description
This collection includes a 220 page manuscript written between November 3, 1817 and January 21, 1818 by Henry Foord, along with three enclosures. Hand bound in vellum, the manuscript details a system of geometrical and mechanical mathematics titled "Theorema Arithmetica or the Art of Computation Abbreviated for the Use of Mechanics & etc: Being A Complete Analysis of the Several Rules Necessary to the Acquiring a Competent Knowledge of Arithmetic & Mensuration in Theory and Practice: The Whole Arranged into Regular Systems with a Variety of Useful Demonstrations After a New Method and Rendered Easy to the Meanest Capacity."
Also included are three manuscript items: "Memorandum Copy of The Theory of Land Measure," 1822; a "Specimen of Penmanship" dedicated to Mr. Benjamin Ward, Charity School Master, Sandwich, 1830; and an undated document showing calculations for finding the distance of remote objects.
