Coptic Manuscript, undated
Scope and Contents
This box contains, what Allen labeled, a "Coptic Manuscript." Written in Coptic and Arabic, the manuscript has illuminations consisting of marginalia and borders. There seems to be some conservation work done consisting of page repairs using newspaper and other paper materials. The manuscript is unbound and is made up of 116 pages. The back and front boards are covered in leather with a leather string. The manuscript was found in a cream-colored, flat, square box, something akin to something a scarf/handkerchief would be gifted in, with the words “Sanskrit? Coptic Manuscript” written on it. “Sanskrit Manuscript” is written in cursive and crossed out in red. “Coptic” is printed in uppercase letters in red under the word “Sanskrit.”
The creation date of the item is unclear; however, it looks to be a more Medieval than dating from the early AD period.
