Scope and Contents
Professor Cloke’s papers (MC 70) consist of correspondence and planning records reflecting his efforts as head of the newly created Chemistry Department to develop undergraduate and graduate curricula, increase sponsored research, and expand laboratory facilities. Furthermore, the collections of Professor Cloke's papers reflect the outstanding contributions to R.P.I. and the Chemistry Department for which Cloke was nominated as Chairman of the department in 1949 on recommendation of his colleagues within the department. The Chemistry Department Reports reflect the dedication of the department with Cloke as a leading figure in the sustainability of the program. Notes on the history of chemistry at R.P.I., department objectives, department reports and long range planning reflect Cloke's dedication to the department and his students. Professor Cloke's writings include his Ph.D. dissertation (1931), research papers (1929-1965), and memorial speeches for colleagues (1940s). Cloke's research achievements are represented in series III, writings and publications, highlighting his dedication to such topics as alkylations, catalytic hydrogenations, the chemistry of pyrrolines, and nitriles.
