Nolte, Henry J.
Biographical Note
Henry J. Nolte atttended R.P.I. between approximately 1915 and 1918. Though Nolte was slated to graduate with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, his achievements in research, laboratory work, patents and pioneering prompted him to excel as a leader for General Electric in Schenectday, NY. Nolte was employed by General Electric for 45 years and held more than 20 patents for the design and engineering of electronic tubes. Two of Nolte's significant engineering feats were regarding ceramic metal sealing techniques and designs and strains and stress relationships in glass. Nolte died suddenly on February 8th, 1978. His success as an engineer brought him due recognition by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Community and in 1978 the Henry J. Nolte Memorial Prize was established. The prize is awarded at Commencement to a baccalaureate or master’s degree candidate in electrical and systems engineering who has done an outstanding engineering research or design project.
