Biographical Note

Gerald B. Fitzgerald Jr. was the younger brother of Thomas, born on February 22nd, 1905, in Troy, New York. He attended Rensselaer from 1923 to 1927, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. He was also a star athlete, playing class baseball, varsity hockey, and varsity football, in which he received the “R” award, Rensselaer’s varsity letter. In 1932, he married his wife, Lucy K. Heenan. Gerald received a professional engineering degree after his time at Rensselaer, and worked as a plant and mechanical engineer at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) in Schenectady, New York, under the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). Possibly in the 1960’s, and in the 1970’s, he worked as a Senior Engineering Constructor for the New York State Building Design and Construction in Albany. He retired in the 1970’s.
